About Ali

I earned my Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan in 1995. I started my career working with survivors of partner/family violence and then worked in community mental health and psychiatry. After a decade of working, I transitioned away from social work to pursue additional education and other interests. In 2016, I immersed myself in local and national public school advocacy for several years before returning to clinical work and private practice.

I work with adults for individual psychotherapy. My primary clinical interests include trauma, attachment issues, adult children of emotionally immature parents/caregivers, family violence/estrangement, depression, anxiety, and identity issues. I work with people from all cultures, and I have a particular interest in working with folks who live at the intersection of racial and cultural identities. I believe our internal world and our wellness connect deeply to our culture and society.

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, a treatment to help people heal from traumas, both big and small. You can learn more about this effective treatment modality here

I approach therapy with the belief that our early life relationships and experiences are the foundation on which we build our lives. These experiences can impact us throughout different life stages, and sometimes it’s necessary to explore this foundation in order to understand the roots of our present suffering. With more awareness and understanding, we can process and integrate old wounds and ultimately create more control and satisfaction in your life.

What do we talk about?
Therapy is time focused on you. I encourage you to be as candid as possible with your thoughts, daily dilemmas, and your deeper internal struggles. My priority is to be curious about you, make observations, and pay attention to our spoken and unspoken communications as our relationship evolves. The goal is to learn about aspects of you with the hope of bringing to light areas that contribute to your distress.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
Being in therapy involves uncertainty and vulnerability and choosing a therapist with whom you can build trust and connection is essential. I’d like to suggest we schedule a first appointment so you can get a feel for how I work and the potential for a working relationship.
What is your fee?
$140 for a 50 min session and $150 for an EMDR session. Occasionally, I have a limited number of sliding scale spots in my practice. Please email me to inquire.
Can I use insurance?
I do not accept insurance at this time but I can provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement. Depending on your out-of-network benefits, part of your therapy fee may be covered by insurance. Insurance plans differ, please call your insurance company to request coverage details.
